Employee recognition has found a whole new meaning and level for Milwaukee downtown workers, with the Downtown Employee Appreciation Week. While most companies show their appreciation and gratitude for their employees through varied means of rewards and recognition programs, Milwaukee Downtown, BID # 21 thought out-of-the-box. It literally took things outside into the open lanes of the downtown business district.
Milwaukee Downtown BID #21 is an organization that supports the interests of the downtown Milwaukee business community. It was created in 1998 through private sector leadership and Downtown is a business improvement district that oversees 120 blocks representing approximately 400 property owners in the center of downtown Milwaukee.According to the organizations website, a Business Improvement District (BID) has been defined as a geographic area where property owners agree to assess themselves annually to fund specific programs and projects. Through BID #21 assessments, Milwaukee Downtown funds specific initiatives aimed at creating a clean, safe and friendly downtown. BID #21 represents one square mile, the boundaries of Milwaukee Downtown are 10th Street on the west, Lake Michigan on the east, Schlitz Park on the north and St. Paul Avenue on the south.
The event is said to be the first of its kind in the country, with the idea of bringing together employees from various organization working in the same location and creating synergy and fraternization amongst them. More and more companies are being encouraged to sign up their employees for this event, as a gesture of employee appreciation.With approximately 82,000 employees working in the Milwaukee downtown area, it is hoped that the event sees a good turnout at its debut stint.This week long Employee Appreciation event entails a series of events which started on Monday July 25th, 2011 at the Red Arrow Park with music, a Milwaukee mascot challenge, a Milwaukee Bucks shootout and the “National Anthem.” There are many events lined up for the entire week, including but not limited to office challenge games, volley ball and basket ball shoot outs, happy hours, battle of the bands and also the ‘world’s largest coffee break’, the rhetorical life fuel for most people at work. These events will take place across the downtown business district and are being sponsored by many businesses based out of the area. The event will end on July 29th, 2011.
