In his youthful prime, Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger was often the symbol of having a hedonistic, “sex, drugs and rock’n’roll” lifestyle. But a new book by a music-industry insider claims that behind the scenes, Jagger was much more conservative than his public image would lead people to believe.
The Daily Mail reports that the nonfiction book “Backstage Pass VIP” (written by Debra Sharon Davis and due to be published in 2012) is a collection of stories about some of music’s biggest legends, including Jagger.
According to the Daily Mail:
Author Debra Sharon Davis said the singer would bring his parents flowers during visits and on one occasion asked his then wife Bianca to wear a bra when his mother made a surprise visit.
“Bianca refused, stormed out and Jagger was left to nervously fix a tray of tea and spread a bunch of pastries on a doily to cater to his mum,” said Davis. “It is the absolute opposite of everything the public thought they knew about Jagger.”
Davis, who travelled with the Rolling Stones to Europe in the 1980s, interviewed fans and Jagger’s bandmates for her book ‘Backstage Pass VIP.’
These anecdotes are very tame and really not that shocking to Rolling Stones fans who already know that Jagger is fairly traditional when it comes to matters regarding his immediate family.
Considering that there have been so many scandalous stories already written about Jagger in tell-all books and articles, it seems inevitable that now a writer is taking a new angle by implying that the only really shocking thing left to say about Jagger is that he’s secretly much more conservative than people think he is.
However, these anecdotes about Jagger bringing his parents flowers and wanting his then-wife to wear a bra around his mother are hardly “proof” of being conservative, since they are just examples of a son being respectful of his parents.
And it’s not exactly revealing to say that Jagger has family values. After all, at the height of his “hedonistic image,” Jagger did get married (to his first wife, Bianca, who was pregnant when they had their wedding), which is an obvious indication that he wanted to participate in the traditional institution of marriage.
But it’s worth noting that Mick was not that conservative about having a bra-less wife in public, since Bianca’s low-cut wedding dress showed that she was not wearing a bra. And at the wedding reception, a bra-less Bianca wore another very revealing outfit that clearly exposed her breasts. Mick’s parents attended the wedding ceremony and reception, and they saw Bianca in both outfits. So Mick obviously knew that his parents would see Bianca without a bra on the couple’s wedding day.
