Gwinnett lost game two of this four game set Wednesday to Durham by a 4-0 score but the story of this game was the performance of 22 year old LHP Matt Moore who was making only his second start for Triple-A Durham. The loss drops the G-Braves (57-47) 2.0 games back of the division leading Bulls (59-45) in the International League South.
Matt Moore (1-0, 0.69 ERA) made his second start at the Triple-A level and held the G-Braves scoreless while only allowing 3 hits in 8 innings pitched. He also struck out 13 batters while only walking 2. In Moore’s two starts he has giving up 6 hits and 1 run (a homer) in13 innings of work while recording 20 K’s compared to only 4 BB’s.
For those unfamiliar with Moore this performance is not unusual. At the Double-A level Moore struck out 131 batters while walking only 28 in 102.1 innings pitched-that gives him 11.5 K’s per 9.0 IP and a K/BB ratio of 4.68 to 1.0.

LHP Mike Minor (L, 3-5, 3.14 ERA) started his 15th game of the season and takes the loss. Minor worked 7.0 innings allowing 5 hits and 4 runs (only 2 earned) while striking out 7 and issuing 2 base on balls.
RHP Jairo Asencio (ND, 2-1, 1.41 ERA with 18 Saves) made his 33rd appearance pitching a scoreless 8th inning and lowered his ERA to 1.41 for the year.
SS Tyler Pastornicky (.441, 0 HRs/3 RBI) accounted for half of the G-Braves hits with a 2-for-3 night and also reached base via a walk. He has now hit safely in 7-of-8 games with Gwinnett and has an on-base percentage of .468.
The series continues Thursday in Durham with RHP Todd Redmond (7-3, 3.18 ERA) facing LHP Alex Torres (7-6, 3.21 ERA) of the Bulls.
