Maroon 5 and Train played for a sold out Red Rocks Amphitheatre last night in front of an adoring crowd. Maroon 5 performed first and busted out on to the stage with their latest single “Moves Like Jagger” and rolled continuously through their set list, which included a taste of the band’s take on Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” and ended the performance with an endearing “She Will Be Loved” encore. Performing singles that go way back to their 2002 album Songs About Jane, Maroon 5 received some incredible crowd sing-alongs back in return thanks to the way the amphitheatre captures and reverberates sound.
Another incredible sound that the amphitheatre amplified was the sound of a train approaching as Train came out on stage. They opened up with their moving single “Parachute” off of their latest album Save Me, San Francisco (2009) which peaked at #3 on Billboard’s Rock Albums Chart (www.billboard.com/#/album/train/save-me-san-francisco/1282586). Like how Maroon 5 mixed in some classics of their own and a little of Tina Turner’s into their set, Train’s performance included a bit of U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” and some of their own classic hits such as, “Calling All Angels” and “Meet Virginia.”
And of course Maroon 5 (M5) and Train also made sure to include some melodic and colorful guitar solos and collaborations by M5’s Adam Levine and James Valentine and Train’s Pat Monahan and Jimmy Stafford as well. The bands’ performances were both charismatic and incredibly crowd-engaging, but with the incredible set lists and a sold out crowd made up of obvious fans who could expect anything less?
