IKEA in Houston is a popular shopping destination, not only because of the fun atmosphere and the huge selection of decorative and useful furniture and accessories but they also provide many fun filled family events throughout the year, such as their special breakfast/brunches.
If you need a really good excuse to go shopping at IKEA (or one that may convince your spouse that yes we actually do need to go shopping) here are three upcoming events that should do all the convincing for you.
IKEA Houston honors its Swedish roots with celebrations throughout the year including, the crowd favorite Kräftskiva (Crayfish Party). Traditionally, Crayfish harvesting in Sweden was legally limited to late summer, resulting in large celebratory parties in August. IKEA Houston invites the public to join them for their own state-side celebration on August 19 with a Crayfish buffet!
This Crayfish “fest” is a twist on a familiar favorite with Texans. We like our mud bugs hot and spicy, but Swedish Crayfish are marinated in lemon and dill and served cold.
MENU: Tossed green salad, Cucumber salad, Hardboiled eggs with mayo and shrimp, Shell on prawns with cocktail sauce, CRAYFISH, Crispbread, Crisprolls, Dinner rolls, Assorted Swedish Cheeses, Meatballs with Lingonberries, Mashed Potatoes, Boiled Dill, New Potatoes, Assorted Swedish desserts and cookies, coffee, tea, fountain beverages.
WHEN: Friday, August 19, 2011, 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.
WHERE: IKEA Houston in the IKEA Restaurant 7810 Katy Freeway at Antoine, Houston , Texas 77024
PRICE: $9.99 per adult, $2.49 per child under 12 years of age, (excluding tax).
Free Popcorn Kids Stop-Animation Workshops
IKEA Houston is partnering with Aurora Picture Show in an effort to encourage media literacy and stimulate parent/child interaction by sponsoring the Popcorn Kids Program.
These stop-animation workshops will teach youth, ages 9 through 12, a form of animation in which still photographs are filmed and manipulated in ways that make them appear to move on their own. Youth will be able to create their short films using IKEA soft toys and finger puppets, pages from the new 2012 IKEA catalog and their own drawings. IKEA and Aurora Picture Show volunteers will help participants create their story and local filmmakers will help bring them to life. The final films will be screened in the IKEA Houston restaurant and shared via http://www.ikeahouston.comand Facebook. If you would like to watch a film from the recent stop-animation work shop hosted by Aurora with support from IKEA at Texas Children’s Cancer Center .
The workshops are free and will take place during the following dates and times:
Saturday, August 13 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
