Sunday, July 17, 2011 was hot. Hot enough where you just didn’t want to be outside for any length of time. The heat, however, didn’t stop metal fans from converging on the Comfort Dental Amphitheatre for this year’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.
“Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem festival 2011 is a true mix of molten veterans and smoldering up-and-comers, who are bringing their A games and giving the fans nothing less of an amazing day,” said tour producer Kevin Lyman.
The festival treks across the country through 26 different cities bringing several different metal bands with it. During the day there were two different stages set up. One was the Jagermeister Stage which featured bands such as Unearth, Red Fang, Kingdom of Sorrow, and Trivium. The Revolver stage had bands Straight Line Stitch, All Shall Perish, Suicide Silence, and In Flames. Each stage started once the other had finished, making for a great afternoon of metal music, and each stage also featured local bands in each city who had won a Battle of the Bands competition.
Having braved the heat and crowds all day, everybody eventually filed properly into the amphitheatre to witness greatness from Machine Head, Megadeth, Godsmack, and Disturbed.
The festival also brought with it the Metal Mulisha, however because of the size of the grounds around the amphitheatre, they were unable to jump. That didn’t stop them from making a loud entrance on their motocross bikes, and sticking around signing autographs, selling gear, and hanging out with the fans.
Besides music, and well, general mayhem, there were vendor booths set up selling band t-shirts and other Mayhem gear. The bands also did meet and greets throughout the day, which included autograph signings.
The festival started in Los Angeles on July 9, and will conclude on August 14 in West Palm Beach.
