NOW it’s summer!
They’re back! Lucas Brothers Farm Stands, purveyors of those exquisite Black Diamond watermelons, are again open for the season!
With several locations around the Miami Valley, there’s a Lucas Brothers farm stand near you! Lucas Brothers offer produce from their family farm in the Sugarcreek Township area. Their quality sweet corn is tender enough to be eaten raw (really); bi-color corn is currently available and the white corn should be along any day now.
Current local offerings include baby potatoes, cucumbers, cantaloupes, green beans, zucchini and cabbage; Indiana watermelons and South Carolina peaches and plump red tomatoes are offered for convenience sake until the local crops come in.
The star of the show, however, is the mouth-watering Black Diamond watermelon, due in any day now. The epitome of summer succulence, this non-GMO melon is actually an extremely dark forest green, with a basically seedless deep red interior fruit.
Open daily from 10-5 or til they sell out, Lucas brothers’ farm stands are in Beavercreek at Grange Hall Road and North Fairfield Rd, on 741 in West Carrollton near Meijer’s, behind the Wal-Greens near State Route 725 and Wilmington Pike in Centerville, and across from the Subway in the parking lot at the NE corner of Marshall and Stroop Roads in Kettering.
