Our nation’s continued fierce economic climate has caused many companies to hold back from their traditional “giving” methods this year but some businesses – like Garden Gove-based Earth Friendly Products – continue to give to charity despite these unstable times.
“For the second year in a row we are very happy to be a Title Sponsor of the Children’s Classic Golf Tournament with the Friends of COSTCO Guild to provide vital support for Seattle Children’s Hospital. The way I see it, there is nothing more critical than providing for the healthcare needs of so many children throughout such a large area of our country.” said Van Vlahakis, Owner and CEO of Earth Friendly Products.
Seattle Children’s Hospital is the onlymedical center specifically designed to provide pediatric medical services for the states of Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. And as Vlahakis pointed out, for decades Earth Friendly Products has been dedicated to manufacturing household cleaning products made of all-natural ingredients and are free of harsh, toxic chemicals that are hazardous, especially to children’s health.
“As a mother, I know how important medical care is for children, especially for those who are dealing with the harsh reality of tough economic times. That’s another important reason why we at Earth Friendly Products feel the Children’s Golf Classic is such a wonderful cause,” explained Kelly Vlahakis-Hanks, Vice President of Earth Friendly Products. “Donations go directly to support top quality care to meet the medical needs of all the children in the area regardless of their parent’s ability to pay. That focus on the children is what really counts to all of us, including everyone who works in Earth Friendly Products’ Lacey, Washington plant. We are all part of the greater northwest community.”
In May of this year, Seattle Children’s Hospital was ranked 7thamong the Nation’s best children’s hospitals by U.S. News and World Report. But this isn’t the first time that the institution has been voted as a top notch healthcare provider for our youth.
“We are honored to be recognized as a top children’s hospital for the 19thtime by U.S. News,” said Dr. Thomas Hansen, CEO at Children’s. “These rankings are due to the remarkable work of our team who strives to provide excellent, family-centered care every day. Our nurses, doctors and staff are a constant source of inspiration to me.”
Awards and honors are no stranger to Vlahakis and his award winning, sustainably minded company. Earth Friendly Products earned the coveted Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA) in 2010 in California for its sustainable products and business practices. But that’s not all, each of the company’s five geographically diverse manufacturing centers across the US have earned awards by the public as well as the private sector.
The family-run Earth Friendly Products will continue to focus on manufacturing the safest and most sustainable cleaning products for the benefit of children and all living things for years to come. But from now through August 8, Vlahakis and several members of the Earth Friendly family will enjoy the Friends of Costco Guild golf tournament which will also protect the lives of children in the US in immeasurable ways.
“This great golf tournament that brings together the Friends of Costco Guild in joint sponsorship is truly commendable and we are delighted to be a part of such an important annual event. The organizers and volunteers do such a great job in making everyone feel welcome from the opening ceremony through all of the tournaments at the various golf clubs and country clubs in the area.” concluded Vlahakis.
