Let’s be honest, the noise at Starbucks can be a distraction if you’re there to get work done. How about the crying (but cute) child a few feet away from you at the library? Yep, that too. If you don’t have an office are you running all over town, in california traffic, with increasingly high gas prices trying to make it to client’s offices or coffee shops early enough to scope out the perfect, quiet (fingers crossed), near an electric outlet table? Forget printing unless you drive .6 miles to the nearest Kinkos, a snack is $3 at minimum and you probably won’t want the 7 other people sitting within earshot to hear you discussing a brilliant new marketing strategy with your investors. What’s a consultant/contractor or small business owner to do?
Thanks to fast-paced, innovative, 21st century thinking, we have the answer: welcome to coworkIng! This concept came to fruition about six years ago – first for high-tech workers and those in creative arts fields (graphic and web design). The benefits and bi-products of coworking are collaboration, productivity, networking, a sense of community, a more professional meeting space for clients/interns, etc. San Diego has a handful of coworking spaces, with the newest being Hera Hub. Check out the new San Diego Coworking Alliance website to stay on top of everything up and coming in the coworking world.
Targeting entrepreneurial females, Hera Hub provides everything a working woman (or man – Hera Hub offers and hosts many co-ed events as well as semi or permanent office space for men or women) might need: Wi-Fi, conference calling, faxing, black and white printing and copying, sufficient parking, coffee, tea and snacks. Yep, unlimited coffee and snacks! And, these items are all included FREE in membership or hourly bookings. President or as she calls herself, ‘Community Curator’, Felena Hanson, explains Hera Hub’s best “bi-product is when you surround yourself with other ambitious women cool things just happen!” And, really how can one measure the extensive power of a group of women?
Membership starts at $49/month and has lots of benefits outside of discounted pricing including: exposure on the Hera Hub website, monthly members only events, the possibility to be a Hera Hub Guru, etc. Gurus offer weekly, bi-weekly or monthly service hours for other Hera Hub Members on-site. Who wouldn’t want to promote their business and services, potentially gaining new clientele while working? Have an I.T. issue, health insurance question or need some legal advice? There’s a Hera Hub “Guru Day” for that: learn more about Guru days on the events calendar here.
Need a meeting or conference room? Want to have a team building day off site or host an event (seating is available for 60-80 dependent on set-up)? Hera Hub offers all of the above; It is a work, meeting and event space. Even better, all meeting/conference bookings can be done online anytime! Events aren’t limited to business functions. Future bookings in discussion include: a TEDx San Diego mixer, professional organization get togethers, book launches, cooking classes, a Royal Majestea tea and chocolate event, LinkedIn workshops and more! In the near future, Felena plans to provide a ‘buffet of services’ in a package deal format for off-site strategy and team-building meeting planning. It will be kind of like one-stop shopping for all of your outside of work, but still working get togethers. Think catering, professional speakers, meeting facilitators, etc. all at your fingertips.
After running Ladies Who Launch San Diego and Women’s Global Network San Diego, Felena knows the challenge of finding good professional event spaces. Working from home and coffee shops for the last 8 years while running her own marketing firm, Perspective Marketing, also helped Felena recognize the need for temporary, professional and collaborative work space. And, with the ever-increasing number of Women starting businesses (twice more than men), it became evident that Hera Hub was a necessity. Even after two failed lease negotiations, Felena found the perfect landlords and made her dream become a big and beautiful (view the attached photo album to see for yourself!) reality.
Located off of Scranton Road in the heart of Sorrento Valley, Hera Hub is a hop, skip and jump away from Karl Strauss Brewing Co. and the 805/5 connection. You can also find Hera Hub on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.
Stop by for a visit today and start working smarter! As Felena says, “Just because you work for yourself doesn’t mean you have to work by yourself!” And, when you meet Felena, be sure to compliment her on her forward thinking, great interior design skills (she designed Hera Hub herself!) and the fact that Hera Hub’s space is completely Feng-Shuied by South Coast Feng Shui to provide you the most balanced and harmonious workspace available.
