The talented fashion designer and stylist, Korto Momolu, based out of Little Rock, Arkansas will be at African Fashion Week New York July 11-17, 2011. Momolu is best known for her time on Project Runway season 5, but has paved her own path since the show and is becoming more known for her fabulous designs more than anything.

Momolu always represents Little Rock in the way any Arkansan would like her to, full of confidence, integrity and of course, style. Momolu’s collection this year is said to, ” highlight colors and designs that reflect her homeland back in Liberia, which is a signature of her work.”
In her recent interview with CNN’s African Voices, Momolu exclaimed, “I’ve always loved to infuse my African Heritage in there—but not in a way where it’s like an in your face, traditional African outfit”.
Korto Momolu showcased her newest collection at Africa Fashion Week New York Thursday, July 14th. AFWNY is set to take place July 14th, 15th, and 16th in New York City’s Financial District in the Broad Street Ballroom.
She has been designing for over 17 years and is originally from Liberia. She now resides with her husband and daughter in Little Rock, Arkansas, where November 13th was officially declared Korto Momolu-Briggs Day. Momolu’s designs are sleek and fresh and Momolu has been quoted as saying she considers herself an artist first, but fashion design has been her primary goal since high school, where her art teacher suggested she try it. She got a crash course in sewing from her aunt and polished her skills in college.
Momolu has said she designs clothes for “real women,” which can be translated into “any woman of any size.” She has also formed a partnership with Dillard’s Incorporated to design an eye-catching collection of handbags and jewelry that is currently in more than 70 stores nationwide. Additionally, she teamed up with Madera Exotic Woods to design “The Saba Collection”, an exclusive line of fashionable eco-friendly wood jewelry.
Highlighted as the “fashion designer to watch” by the New York magazine, Korto has been featured by major international and national media outlets, including the Tom Joyner Morning Show, People Magazine, Soap Opera Digest, Women’s Wear Daily, Sprit magazine, TV Guide, The Mo’Nique Show, African Premiere Television, The Wendy Williams Show, Essence, and many more.
