The 2012 USA Olympics Boxing Team Trials concluded this Friday night with the title of Super heavyweight Champion belonging to Lenroy Cameron ‘Cam’ Thompson who now has only one hurdle left in his path to the 2012 Summer Olympics Games held in London, England, beginning July 28th and ending August 12th.
The 2011 AIBA World Championships, held September 22, to October 10th in Baku, Azerbaijan, have ‘Cam’ only needing to finish in the top six of the super heavyweight competition to punch his ticket to the 2012 Summer Olympics Boxing competition.
‘Only needing to finish in the top six’ may be a misleading statement, as top competition from around the world will make the World Championships maybe as talent filled as the Olympic Games themselves.
Being an inseperably close friend of (Colorado) Denver light flyweight champion ‘KIng Louie’ Byrd and Minnesota (Oakdale) light heavyweight champion Robert Brant has me referring to the threesome as ‘The Three Amigos’, three great friends who are actually as close as any set of blood brothers would/could be.
Unfortunately for Byrd and Brant their chances of joining ‘Cam’ in London were dealt a major blow when both were defeated during the Olympic Boxing Team Trials last week but true to their inner fortitude, neither has given up hope of joining Cam in London as there remain circumstances that could allow them to make the 2012 USA Olympics Boxing Team.
Lenroy Cameron ‘Cam’ Thompson

Originally from Uniondale, Long Island, New York, ‘Cam’ Thompson now resides in Lenexa, Kansas, where he continues his pursuit of being a positive role model, with someday becoming an actor, sports anchor, or Talk Show Host something he would definitely consider should that opportunity present itself.
Thompson has already accomplished his goal of being a positive role model by wearing his now customary pink boxing gear, his way of promoting both himself and Breast Cancer Awareness.
Oddly enough ‘Cam’ came to focus on Breast Cancer Awareness after competing in a boxing tournament a few years back in Tampa, Florida, and has been one of their most valued spokesperson’s ever since.
I vividly remember the whispers when Thompson appeared with his trademark ‘I (HEART) BOOBS’ displayed on his pink boxing trunks, but after awhile USA Boxing relaxed their misogynistic concerns after fans came to understand what ‘Cam’ was promoting, with ‘TEAM CAM: Get a mam, ma’am’, prominently displayed as well.
“Before all is said and done, I hope to raise $1 Million dollars for Breast Cancer Awareness”, says ‘Cam’ Thompson.
Most amateur boxers have in their mind the ultimate goal of turning pro, but ‘Cam’ Thompson sees himself in a much different perspective, probably due in part to his obvious maturity level (he turns 23 years-old on August 16th) when saying, “In my perfect world, the minute the 2012 Olympic Games have been completed I take some time off to develop some business skills that will in turn allow me to open my own gym to begin training as a participant in the 2016 Olympic Games. I haven’t been able to spend any time with my parents who reside in Florida. I was hoping to spend some time with them for a few days, but training camp starts in two weeks so I’ll continue phone conversations and they will follow me on my new twitter account”.

When asked his feelings for ‘Cam’ Thompson ‘King Louie’ Byrd had this to say, “He’s not just a champion but a friend, my best friend. He will do great things in this sport. He has come a long way and, hey it’s not over for me yet. I’ll be right next to you ‘Cam’. Congrats and I love you bro”!
Similar in his comment for ‘Cam’ was Robert Brant’s, “I couldn’t be happier for ‘Cam’ as he’s one of my closest friends. Traveling with him during various competitions has helped forge our lifelong friendship. I am extremely proud of him and expect him to do well the rest of the way. If the cards fall where I’m able to join him in London, WATCH OUT”!
‘Remarkable’, ‘Driven’, ‘Compassionate’, ‘Caring’, ‘Champion’…these words all accurately describe Lenroy Cameron ‘Cam’ Thompson, but what best describes him is the word ‘Leader’.
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a Leader“.–John Quincy Adams.
