The big Delaware State Fair may be over but there are plenty more fairs and festivals for us to enjoy in the upcoming weeks and months. Here in Wilmington we have the annual Festival Hispano coming up very soon, and within a short day trip drive will be others to enjoy. And not just small, regional and craft fairs. Late summer and early fall can indeed by a very ‘Fair’ time!
Just a short drive from us in Wilmington are two of the upcoming biggies – the Maryland State Fair, and the York Fair.
The Maryland State Fair will arrive first at the Timonium Fairgrounds just north of Baltimore. It runs between August 26th and September 5th. Then The York Fair runs from September 9th through the 18th.
Admission at The Maryland State Fair is $8 for Adults, $6 for Seniors (62 and older), $6 for Children 6-11, and Children 5 and under are admitted free. Limited parking is available on the fairgrounds for $3.
Admission at The York Fair is $6 for Adults, $3 for Children 6-11, and Children 5 and under are admitted free. Parking on the large fairgrounds fields is $6.
Now here’s Gibby’s Secret about fair prices – find coupons. You’ll be surprised where they turn up, convenience stores, your bank, grocery stores (you may have to ask), even some restaurants. There are many places that want to get a part of the customer action, and make ticket coupons available. So keep an eye out.
And if you would rather stay close to home then a local fair day trip should be to the Wilmington Festival Hispano. I go to fairs for usually one reason – to eat my way through. The fact that you have great salsa music to listen to while you gorge yourself on all your Hispanic favorites makes this one of my favorite all time festivals. And it’s a great time to catch up with old friends in a fun, exciting atmosphere.
The Festival Hispano runs from Friday, September 2nd through Sunday, September 4th at the Wilmington Waterfront. Fridays festivities start at 6pm, and Saturday’s and Sunday’s event start at 10am.
There’s still plenty to see and do – ‘Fair’ wise here in Wilmington and close by. And it’s all family friendly. Hope to see you out there.
