An inmate at the Clark County Detention Center battered and then stabbed his cellmate to death with a pencil early Friday morning. Carl Guilford, an 18 year old male, had been incarcerated on an earlier murder charge regarding the suffocation death of his 6 year old nephew. Guilford was charged with murder in connection with this recent stabbing death of his cellmate.
Police spokespersons said ” the suspect physically battered and stabbed him with a pencil” in a statement. They indicated that pencils are allowed items in the jail. The two inmates had been fighting when Guilford committed the stabbing. A corrections officer was conducting a routine check about 1:20 am Friday when he discovered the unconscious and unresponsive cellmate. Attempts to revive the man failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
