Lamont Peterson became the IBF Light Welterweight mandatory for Amir Khan by defeating Victor Cayo by knockout in the 12th round on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights shown live from The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
Peterson and Cayo went at each other from the onset. Peterson was scoring mostly on body shots that would eventually get to Cayo in the later rounds.
The end came at 2:46 of the twelfth round when Cayo was counted out by referee Kenny Bayless.
Whether Lamont Peterson will face Amir Khan for the IBF title still remains to be seen. There is talk of Amir Khan moving up to welterweight in the near future and further discussions of Amir Khan facing Floyd Mayweather, Jr. late next year.
