Labor Day weekend offers the last long weekend of summer 2011. Of course there’s plenty to do on Labor Day weekend in and around Charlottesville but if you’re hitting the road there are a few worthy weather iPhone apps to check. With the recent earthquake, aftershocks and hurricane and another storm brewing, a weather app is a good idea if your family is taking a road trip this Labor Day.
When I first looked at apps, I checked out the Weather Channel app because they are my go to source on the home television screen.
The Weather Channel app is available for iPhone and Android.
What’s to like about the Weather Channel app?
-This weather app is free.
-Weather Channel app opens to weather in your current location.
-You can get hourly, 36 hour or 10 day forecast.
-Regardless of the weather, the app is rather pretty and easy on the eyes.
What’s not to like about the Weather Channel app?
-Radar maps are slow to load, at least on the iPhone.
-Pop-up ads are annoying.
LapTop.com gives the Weather Channel 4 out 5 stars but user reviewers at iTunes rate the Weather Channel app at only a 2. I’ll split the difference and call it a 3. I think the crashing issues have improved in the latest version but the pop ups are still really annoying. Again, as all of my favorite apps are, the Weather Channel’s weather app is free.
Don’t forget you can keep up with local information when during your Labor Day travel with these Charlottesville related iPhone apps. Get free podcast from The Daily Progress or free podcast from CPN, Charlottesville Podcast Network by Sean Tubbs.
See my review of the weather app WeatherBug, which I gave 4 out of 5 stars and found to offer more than the Weather Channel app. It’s also a freebie.
