Knitting Beyond the Edge: Now in paperback

by jolt left

Already a successful hardback, Nicky Epstein’s Knitting Beyond the Edge: The Essential Collection of Decorative Finishes, will be released in paperback on September 6. This book features all that knitters have come to expect from Epstein, a well-known designer and knitting expert.

Target market

This book is intended for advanced knitters who are aiming for the stratosphere! Experience or at least an interest in designing is almost a must for the knitter who wishes to get full use from this book.

Learning and reference value

Learning value of this book is astronomical; however, that learning begins at a fairly advanced level. The knitter who has the experience and the desire to embellish common knitting patterns will use this book as a reference time and time again.

One entire chapter each is devoted to cuffs and collars, necklines, corners and edges, and closures.

Instructions for patterns in this book

All instructions are clear and follow standard notation.

Photographs and illustrations

As with Epstein’s previous books, the photography is absolutely stunning. For starters, each chapter has its own color scheme. A sample of perfect knitting showcases each pattern in the book. The lighting in the photographs is perfect–stitches are clearly visible. Textures are reach-out-and-touch-it beautiful!

There are few illustrations in the book, but those included are clear and easy to understand

Description of patterns in this book

Each chapter opens with a photo double-take of a completed garment. These garment patterns are included at the end of the book. The main features are the patterns for the embellishments: creative closures, smooth or richly textured necklines, frilly cuffs, whimsical corner designs, and more.

Oklahoma take

Oklahoma knitters look for value on every page. This book has value with every pattern and usually three patterns on a page! The only downside is that almost no one has time to use all these amazing patterns! Further, some of these designs might be slightly more at home on a Paris runway than on a Bricktown street corner. There is a cosmopolitan flavor to some of these patterns that does not quite have the down-home feel of Oklahoma City.

All in all, it is a terrific resource for advanced knitters who have some very special projects in mind.

Where to buy locally

This book can be ordered from Gourmet Yarn Company or Full Circle Bookstore in northwest Oklahoma City.
