How do adult soccer warriors entertain themselves? For some, they participated in the Kla Ha Ya adult soccer tournament held July 23-24, 2011 in Snohomish, WA. The Kla Ha Ya soccer tournament has been around more than 20 years according to tournament officials. This year, 82 teams divided into nine age categories converged on Stocker Fields for a fun weekend filled with action packed soccer, camping and camaraderie, watching parachute jumpers and a host of other activities held in town during the annual Kla Ha Ya event.
Where do all the teams come from? This year they came from places like Portland, OR, Vancouver B.C., Yakima, not to mention teams from throughout the greater Puget Sound region. This is typical year to year. The tournament is successful in part because it attracts teams from all over the Northwest, is well managed and offers fair to excellent competition. Another reason for its success is due to the fact that player’s spouses and kids also enjoy coming along. Snohomish’s Kla Ha Ya event offers fun activities for all.
Who are these soccer warriors? Why do they endure the heat, fatigue, and risk injury? You’ll get a variety of responses to these questions when making inquiries to participants. For nearly everyone it boils down to an opportunity. Many 2011 Kla Ha Ya tournament soccer warriors indicated the opportunities depend on age and ‘athletic mileage’ to the body. Some stated they were, in effect, chasing a dream or goal to become a champion, maybe a repeating one, maybe for the first time and for others, perhaps the last time. Other players hinted they simply enjoy every opportunity to play, compete and stay fit in a sport they love. All appeared to enjoy spending time with their friends and teammates in a tournament environment.
