Plenty of mea culpas going around the Kings of Leon camp after the band’s Dallas concert was cut short when lead singer Caleb Followill left the stage mid performance.
Audience members watched as the singer spoke: “I’m gonna go backstage for a second, I’m gonna vomit, I’m gonna drink a beer, then I’m gonna come back out and play three more songs,” Antiquiet reported.
That never happened. When the band re-emerged without Caleb, Jared told an angry crowd: “We are so unbelievably sorry, there’s no words right now, honestly it’s beyond our control. Caleb’s just maybe a little unfit to play the rest of the show.”
“We’re so sorry guys, we love you all so much,” he continued.
“I know you guys f-cking hate us, I can’t apologize enough. It’s really not our fault. He can’t play the rest of the show. We will be back as soon as possible. F-cking hate Caleb, not us.”
A Houston performance scheduled for tonight has been canceled with “heat exhaustion and dehydration” being the reason given. The band has rescheduled and will return to Dallas for a make-up performance Sept. 21. The band’s next scheduled appearance is in Tampa, FL Aug. 2.
Both Jared and Nathan went on damage control, Jared tweeting last night: “Dallas, I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I am. There are internal sicknesses & problems that have needed to be addressed. No words.”
Nathan, choosing not to divulge personal information, blamed the weather: “So sorry Dallas, your heat got the best of a few of us. I’m so sorry for the inconvenience of all this bullshit. We’ll be back soon.”
Both brothers tweeted this morning – Nathan still keeping the conversation close to the chest: “Not so good morning 4 me today. Ashamed & embarrassed by last nights fiasco. Can’t apologize enough, utterly gutted. A million I’m sorry’s.”
Jared hinted that heat and dehydration were not to blame: “I love our fans so much. I know you guys aren’t stupid. I can’t lie. There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade.”
Fans are well aware of the demons the brothers fight off. In the illuminating 2011 documentary Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon, raw footage of the band on the road shows Nathan yelling at Caleb about his drinking problem telling him: “Your band cannot stand you.
“You get so f-cking drunk and talk sh-t. You have got to get your f-cking self together. We have made you, you piece of sh-t.
“You’ve got to realize how much you are talking sh-t to people who love you the most and made you who you are.”
Caleb announces in the film: “Now I’m living a lot better. I went out and I tried it. I’d rather have done it then than get to 50 and do it. I don’t feel the need to do drugs and this and that now but I’m glad I did it all.”
