There seems to be some sort of bizarre paradox when it comes to Kim Kardashian — a mixture of privacy and publicity that may simply demonstrate to all of us that we simply cannot understand without being in her position. How better can you explain her new comments to Us Weekly that her honeymoon in Italy with Kris Humphries allowed for some “alone time,” when at the same time she ended up taking a series of obviously-orchestrated shots for the same magazine?
While it would be easy to criticize here and proclaim that Kim is “all about money,” there may be something else at work here. For example — Kim already knows that she is a major television star, and that paparazzi are going to be following her around (even on her honeymoon) regardless of whether or not she wants them there. If this is the case, why not at least try to make some money off of the pictures and end up sharing some high-quality shots with your fans? Plus, doing this for a short period of time may have enabled the couple to have a greater amount of privacy elsewhere.
There’s still no questioning that Kim knows that her life is a business, and giving as much access to that is exactly how she earns a living. It should be noted that there were no TV cameras that joined her and Kris on the brief honeymoon — even if that is what many people expected. (Does only a trifle of publicity to Kim feel like full privacy to everyone else?)
In stepping away from the debate, Kim did tell the publication that she is planning to take a longer honeymoon with Humphries next summer — next up, they have a new reality show to film in New York.
