Last night (Friday, July 29) at approximately 6:00 pm, Utica, NY Officer Charles Parkosewich responded to Hammond Ave. in Utica for a 911 hang up. When he arrived he found a six year old child running down the street.
He asked the child where they lived and they provided the same address as the location of the 911 call.
The officer continued to the address – and after entering he found a woman sitting at the kitchen table.
There were four 16 oz Keystone Light cans on the kitchen table and she had another one in her hand.
The officer located another six year old child in an unattached garage.
He also learned that the woman was babysitting the children and that she was intoxicated. The officer made arrangements for someone to come watch the children at which point the woman passed out on the floor.
After further investigation the officer learned that the woman had taken the children to the store and she bought beer and cigarettes. The only food the children ate was cheese popcorn. The children were turned over to family and the case was turned over to Child Protective Services.
Police then arrested the babysitter, Kathleen Comito (62) of Hammond Ave. Utica, and charged her with 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child – a misdemeanor.
