“The X Factor” U.K. judge Kelly Rowland made the scene at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards (held August 28 at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles) and the festivities around the ceremony.
And she told reporters what she thinks about the biggest news surrounding the 2011 MTV VMAs: her former Destiny’s Child group mate Beyoncé Knowles announcing that she is pregnant with her first child. Knowles (who has been married to hip-hop superstar Jay-Z since 2008) revealed the news on the MTV VMAs arrivals carpet.
Rowland commented on Knowles’ pregnancy:
“I have known for quite a while. She’s happy and Jay is happy and that’s all that counts. I think she’ll be an incredible mother, because she’s always been motherly. I think that she takes after so many traits from her mother. And I just think its going to be so natural for her. Its natural for her now. I can’t even believe this to this day.”
Rowland has said that she already knows that she will not be the child’s godmother, and she declined to say if she knows the sex of the child. Rowland also said that the expectant parents are already talking about baby names. Knowles has not yet revealed when she is due to give birth, but media outlets have speculated that her due date is in December 2011, January 2012 or February 2012.
Knowles and Rowland have remained close friends since Destiny’s Child amicably split in 2006. Rowland has repeatedly said in interviews that there are no plans for a Destiny’s Child reunion.
There have been rumors that Knowles will be a guest mentor on “The X Factor” U.K. in 2011, during the “judges’ homes” part of the competition, when she will supposedly join Rowland at Rowland’s home in Miami to help choose which contestants will become finalists. Usher, Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs have also been rumored to be among Rowland’s choices to paired with her on the show as her guest mentor.
“The X Factor” U.K. has not yet announced who will be the show’s guest mentors in 2011.
Before the 2011 MTV VMAs, Rowland attended the House of Hype Hot 100 dinner presented by Esquire at a private location, where she was seen making toasts with Armand de Brignac wine. She and other celebrity guests (such as singer Katy Perry and actress Emma Roberts) received Glamhouse.com gift bags, which included jewelry from Kim Kardashian’s line Belle Noel.
Rowland then walked the MTV VMAs arrivals carpet with R&B singer Luke James by her side. (Rowland attended the show, even though she was not a nominee, performer or presenter.) On August 26, 2011, James was also with Rowland in Los Angeles at Give Back Hollywood Foundation’s benefit for VH1 Save the Music Foundation.
After the awards ceremony, Rowland celebrated at the House of Hype’s star-studded MTV VMAs after-party presented by Nissan at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. Other guests at the party included Britney Spears (winner of the MTV’s 2011 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award), Perry, Roberts, former “Glee” star Chord Overstreet (who is dating Roberts), hip-hop star Akon, actress Malin Akerman, actress Rose McGowan, “Glee” star Mark Salling and actor/singer Jamie Foxx. Music at the party was provided by by DJ Cobra and DJ Ire. At one point during the party, Foxx took over the microphone to congratulate Perry on her 2011 MTV VMA wins, including best video of the year for “Firework.”
Before Rowland heads back to “The X Factor” U.K. in November and December for the show’s live episodes, she is doing a North American tour with Chris Brown in support of her third solo album, “Here I Am.” Rowland is set to be an opening act on the tour from September 12 in Toronto to October 2 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
“Here I Am” features the hit song “Motivation,” which has been certified platinum (1 million copies sold) in the United States. “Motivation” was No. 1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart.
Rowland can also be seen making guest appearances on the VH1 reality show “La La’s Full Court Life,” starring her friend La La Vazquez Anthony, a TV personality who is married to basketball star Carmelo Anthony.
