Tropical Storm Katia is now CAT 1 Hurricane Katia. The tropical system has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, a minimum central pressure of 987 mb, and is moving in the west-northwest direction at 20 mph.
Hurricane Katia already is looking impressive. Throughout Thursday we will see little growth come Friday and Saturday Hurricane Katia will mature rapidly. She should be a major hurricane sometime Saturday evening.
The track of this hurricane shows that storm heading north of Puerto Rico and between the Bahamas and Bermuda. She will likely turn north like Hurricane Irene did last week.
Impact on the states may be light as she is pulled north and possibly east back out into the Atlantic. This depends however, on how the environmental conditions play out.
