If you were part of the sold out show at the Mercy Wine Bar in Addison Thursday night, you got to experience a captivating talent that is destined to become the next superstar of music.
Move over divas. Make room for Karen Waldrup.
On tour promoting her latest self titled CD, this was the first stop of three scheduled performances in the area for this Nashville resident, as she will be playing multiple private events around town as well.
From the first song, Miss Waldrup immediately served notice on her audience the she could do more than look amazing. She can sing. She can play guitar. She can grab your attention and not let go. She is downright intoxicating.
Oh, did I mention she can sing?
Her passion for music is felt with each song she plays whether it be an original off of one of her CD’s, or a cover she makes her own. On this night, she did it all, playing a three hour set consisting of her own hits such as Nothing Like You, Wish It Away, and Lie To Me (which she performed live on local television the next morning), as well as songs from Stevie Nicks, Alanis Morissette, and even The Cranberries. Whatever the song choice, whether by her choosing or an audience request, she took it over and sang it like she wrote it. No song is too large for her voice or her desire.
Her guitar skills are just as smooth. With her own style and grace as she strums the chords during each song, its clean and aggressive when needed, yet brought down with touch during those soulful heartfelt songs.
When you looked around the room, every eye was fixated on the Miss Waldrup as she moved across the stage with a confidence and prowess. Sure, she is beautiful, but add the musical aspect of her songs actually telling a story and reaching you as an individual, and you have what a performance should be about. She did not just sing her songs, she made you a part of them. That is part of what makes a musician successful, and is one of the reasons she will soon be a household name.
Become a fan. Now. Get to know her and her music. This star is rising fast..
If you were unable to make the show on Thursday night, you can visit her personal website for photos, tour dates, and even purchase her music. She also has a Reverbnation site where you can learn more about her.
