There have been many great things happening in the world of music for the Bangor area. All day musical festivals have come to the Waterfront Pavillion this summer, such as Oxxfest and the upcoming Carnival of Madness. Music lovers will be thrilled to hear that the KahBang Festival has returned to the Bangor Waterfront this year from August 5th through August 13th. What is so exciting about this is that there will be not one, but two days of music festivities during the closing weekend (August 12th and 13th) with three stages along the Bangor Waterfront. National acts as well as local musicians will be featured during the closing weekend of KahBang, a total of 50 bands. National acts include: My Morning Jacket, Lupe Fiasco, Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, Chromeo, and Atmosphere.
In addition to the musical happenings during the closing weekend, there will be a kickoff concert on Saturday, August 6th. The Gay Blades will be headlining the kickoff concert on Westmarket Square. They will be joined by several other bands including: Janna Campbell, Legend Has It, The Class Machine, Dean Ford, Vanityites, and others to be announced. The concert will begin at 2p.m. with the headlining act performing around 9 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
The night-life will be thriving during the nine day span of the festival as Bangor restaraunts and bars have partnered up with KahBang. So what does this mean? There will be musical performances in venues across the city of Bangor every night. These performances will be much more intimate as they will be in smaller, more social settings. Some of these events will have a limited capacity, so be sure to arrive early to an performances that you would like to see.
There is some new and exciting news for those who would like to attend the festival, but don’t want to shell out the extra money for hotel rooms and the gas needed to attend the festival for more than one day. KahBang now offers a camping priviledges due to customer demand. Camping will be available Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The campsite will feature its own stage and entertainment will be provided for campers at all times. A shuttle service will be provided from the campsite to the festival grounds and area nightlife. There will also be a bonfire on the camping site! A regular camping pass costs $105 and a VIP camping pass cost $120.
There are a number of ticket options for the festival. Music Day Passes allow ticket holders to have one day entry to the music grounds on Friday August 12th or Saturday August 13th and cost $45. There are also 2 day music passes available which allow ticket holders to attend both August 12th and August 13th and includes access to all the film festival screenings. The early bird price for the 2 day music pass is $70. A VIP music day pass is also available which is similar to the 2 day music pass, but allows ticket holders to have access to the VIP areas for the early bird price of $80.
