The 2011 MTV VMAs (Video Music Awards) aired live last night and teen favorite Justin Bieber represented Atlanta by winning Best Male Video for “You Smile.” The pop sensation beat out seasoned pros Eminem, Bruno Mars, Kanye West and Cee Lo Green to take home the coveted Moonman statue. Justin Bieber also took time out at the MTV VMAs for a few PDAs with girlfriend Selena Gomez, including kisses on the red carpet and right after his win was announced.
Justin Bieber fever is hotter than ever. He’s was one of Billboard’s Top Artists of 2010 and is the second most popular person on Twitter with more than 12 million followers. However, young fans here remember how Justin Bieber’s rise to fame all started in Atlanta.
After being discovered online by record producer Scooter Braun, Justin Bieber flew to Atlanta to meet with Usher, who was sold on Bieber not only because of his voice, but also by the fact that talented teen was a self-taught musician who played the drums, guitar, piano and trumpet. Justin Bieber officially signed with Island Records, a division of Def Jam Music Group, in 2008. Shortly thereafter, Bieber moved to Atlanta, home of Usher and Braun, to base his career.
From there, the sky was the limit. His debut album My World produced the smash singles “One Time” and “First Dance”, a duet with Usher. Justin Bieber fever struck the country with an intense force. He quickly became a household name and his face was splashed on hundreds magazine covers.
Justin Bieber is still hotter than a firecracker, and he credits Usher for his success. Everyone in America now knows about this talented teen, and it all started right here in Atlanta. Young fans in the ATL continue to love their favorite local pop sensation who’s gone global. Congratulations to Justin Bieber on last night’s MTV VMA win.
