The “Trilogy Fight” between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez might be a year or two late but it won’t lack in fireworks. One thing for certain is that one of these two men will get knocked out as neither fighter wants to leave the fight in the hands of the judges, especially after the controversial endings to their first two fights. On Friday, Marquez publicly declared that he will die trying to KO Pacquiao. According to the Manila Standard, Marquez made the following comments: “I’ll go for the kill or die trying.”
Marquez and Pacquiao first fought in 2004 in the 125 pound division. Marquez, who was in his prime, was knocked down 3 times by the up and coming Pacquiao. Unfortunately, due to a scoring error by one judge, the fight was ruled a draw.
Will Mayweather Jr. agree to the latest drug testing demands from Arum, No USADA
In 2008, Pacquiao and Marquez fought in a rematch, this time in the 120 pound division. Pacquiao would win by a split decision. However, many boxing pundits had Marquez taking the fight. Since then, JMM has been publicly lobbying for a 3rd fight. Finally, in 2011 he got his wish, but only because there weren’t really any other credible opponents for Manny.
The fight will take place on November 12th live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fighters have agreed to a 144 pound catchweight which should still favor Pacquiao as JMM will have to come up nearly 10 pounds from his normal fighting weight. Last time JMM came up this much, he lost to Floyd Jr. in September 2009 by UD. However, this time around, JMM vows to put the weight on smartly and will keep his speed and power.
Contradictions within Team Pacquiao over agreeing to drug testing demands
Despite Pacquiao opening up as a 8 to 1 favorite, Manny is not overlooking Juan and believes this will be a tough fight. Marquez is coming into this fight with all of the emotion and motivation. I see Pacquiao winning by a 9th round TKO as this fight will be explosive.
