CBS’ Jim Axlerod interviewed the band member from Journey on July 24, 2011 the 30 -year anniversary of “Don’t Stop,” revealing news about the band and their thoughts on the huge success 3- decades late of the bands signature song.
When asked about the song “Don’t Stop Believin” here is what the band had to say. Still touring around the world playing for millions of fans, Journey reveals that “Don’t stop” is on every set list for every performance that the band gives and has given for the past 30- -years, and will hopefully continue on for the next 30.

Journey’s “Don’t stop Believin” is the most covered, karaoked song in pop culture history.
It is officially the most downloaded song in the 20th century.
The song was originally the idea of keyboard player Jonathon Cain.
Jonathon Cain got the idea for the song when he was a starving musician, before joining Journey. He was a struggling musician, who’s father pushed to stay at his music telling him that something good was going to happen soon adding “Don’t Stop Believin” Jon.
Taking his father’s advice Jon sat down with Neal Schon and Steve Perry, the original lead singe of Journey before his retirement, and cranked out the monster rock classic.
The chorus was the only part of the song Jon had when they began writing the lyrics.
“Don’t Stop Believin” broke the billboard top ten in 1981.
“Don’t Stop” joined the soundtrack of the Adam Sandler film “The Wedding Singer, The HBO hit “The Sopranos” and lately the hit TV show “Glee.”
What has made Journey’s song “Don’t Stop Believin” the mega monster hit that it is today? The band believes that it is the underdog subject matter. Everyone always pulls for the underdog, usually no matter who or what it is.
Since Glee’s showcase “Don’t Stop” sold over one million downloads, with the band reporting an 87% rise in their sales.
