If you’re looking for outstanding live music this weekend, then the Joliet area is the place you need to be!
Starting the ball rolling on Wednesday Aug 10this the “3 Rivers Festival” in nearby Channahon at Central Park (Rt. 6 & Bluff Rd). The music starts jumping at 7PM on the beer garden stage with “Living Proof” tearing up 1960’s rock and blues.
The fest continues on Thursday Aug 11thwith perennial favorites “ARRA” at 7:30PM.
Friday Aug 12th Mojoe’s (22 W. Cass St) host a mind-blowing evening of hard-core metal starting at 7:30PM. Bands performing include local favorites“Skull King”, “Psychopathic Daze”, “Crash Course” and headlining is the band “Dope”. Tickets for this must-see event are $15 in advance (www.theticketrumba.com) or $18 at the door. This show is all-ages but if under 17 you must be accompanied by someone 21 or over.
In neighboring Shorewood, The Bullpen Sports Bar located at 716 Cottage St (Rt. 59) will be rocking with “Time Machine” beginning at 9PM. TM’s set list ranges from 50’s and 60’s oldies to 70’s classic and southern rock along with a dose of newer hits as well. These guys are an audience driven band that makes every effort to give their fans a fun and entertaining evening.
Meanwhile Bada Brew (802 Theodore St) will be feeling the full country metal experience when “Haf Bitten Moon” takes over the Bada stage at 9:30PM. The Haf Bitten method is created when a hard driving rock band performs the music of the country artist they admire…sort of like southern rock on steroids.
Friday night at the “3 Rivers Festival” at Central Park in Channahon another perpetual favorite “Hi-Infidelity” commences at 8:30PM.
Moving onto Saturday, an “SOS Party” (Save Our Scene) gets underway when Kegler’s Sports Bar (905 Theodore St) presents three outstanding original local bands featuring “OD JO”, “Mason Avenue” and “The Nation” starting at 9PM. This is a great opportunity to catch some original music steeped in rock, blues, funk and power punk. Check my previous review of “Mason Avenue”.
More original music can be found (albeit in a heavier vein) just down the street at Bada Brew located at 802 Theodore St. “Casket Showroom”, “The Gator Animal”, “Apocrypha” and “Beneath The Stares” start ripping apart the stage at 9PM.
Remember all this is just a few blocks apart…who that says you can’t find exceptional local music outside of the city?
Meanwhile on the beer garden stage at the “3 River Festival” in Channahon starting at 7:30PM is the dance party band “Afterglow” closing out the night with the infectious dance grooves and party songs that they’re known for.
Guitar rockers “Wild Child” headlines at Tailgaters, 431 Boughton Rd in Bolingbrook at 10PM. WC rocks Kiss, Bon Jovi and Guns N Roses but is not afraid to tackle songs by other genre artist like Kings of Leon and Usher.
Sunday the 13thdance party band “Hip Hugger” headlines the “Festa Italiana” located at American Italian Cultural Society (1918 Donmaur St in Crest Hill). The band kicks off at 7PM and guarantees to get the crowd off their seat and on their feet!
Of course if it’s Sunday night 6PM then it’s time for the blues at the “Joliet Heritage Blues Jam” at Kegler’s Sports Bar (905 Theodore St) with T-Bird Huck. Stop in for dinner and catch some dam fine blues.
Also on Sunday “The Last Envy” will be hammering the New Lenox Performing Arts Pavilion beginning at 6:30PM. TLE will be rockin classic rock, alternative 90’s and Nu-rock under the stars in a very rare all-ages show! You ARE allowed to bring in food and your own coolers. The show is also FREE although they ask you bring a non-perishable food item for the New Lenox Food Pantry…how awesome is that?
This weekend was so jam-packed that it even spilled over into Monday! The ever-popular “Libido Funk Circus” performs at Central Square (222 E. 9thSt) in Lockport at 6:30PM. LFC tradition is to dress in the same colors as the band and this time it’s a ‘Blue Show’.
It doesn’t matter if you want to bang your head, strap on the dancing shoes or the cowboy boots, chill out to some cool blues or hot classic rock, J-Town has it all so come play Joliet.
