TAMPA: Tampa country band, Jennifer Lee and Nevaeh Peek, held their fan appreciation party at The Luxury Box on Channelside this past Friday, August 12th. The St. Petersburg Live Music Bar Scene Column had the pleasure of attending their event, and hearing the band perform for the first time.
Jennifer Lee and Nevaeh Peek were first brought to my attention when their Band Manager, Sheree Englehardt, mailed me one of the bands press packages for me to review. Kudos needs to go out to their manager for submitting one of the most professional looking press packages I have ever received in the past 19 years. As a matter of fact, I was so impressed with their press package that I had to catch this band play in person.
Official Jennifer Lee and Nevaeh Peek bio:
Jennifer Lee and Nevaeh Peek is comprised of six professional musicians, each with a broad and deep musical history. Jennifer Lee (Vocals) and Brent Johns (Harmonica) are Nashville Recording Artists, each with their own originals. Our other four members are professional studio musicians as well. All members have performed with many widely recognized musicians throughout the United States.”
“Don’t let the cowboy hats fool you. Nevaeh Peek can “Rock the House” playing anything from soul filled blues to classic rock. They will inspire the audience to tap toes. They perform everything from favorite line dance tunes to classy originals, continually adding popular hits to their ever-growing list of songs.
The bands lineup includes:
Jennifer Lee – Vocals (Nashville Recording Artist for Vision Way Records)
Born and raised in Bushnell, Florida. Jennifer Lee possessed a true talent for singing at an early age. She signed with Vision Way Records in Nashville, Tennessee and in May 2006, released her first national single and video. Strengths include her vocal versatility and ability to capture a crowd. She has made a name for herself in local markets throughout the nation. Currently Bushnell, FL is her home and Florida her main stage while keeping up with nationwide dates through Vision Way Records.
Brent Johns – Harmonica (Nashville Recording Artist – AHA Productions)
Brent was raised in Tampa and comes from eight generations of Florida Crackers! Brent plays the Harmonica and is considered to be one of the best in the Nation. He has been playing the Harmonica since he was 14. His other instruments include the Guitar, Mandolin, and Fiddle. He is a Nashville Studio Musician and a Top Finalist in the 2005 Nashville Music Network Competition. He has played with Charlie Daniels, Montgomery & Gentry, Ken Mellons, Darrell Singletary, Marshall Tucker, and others.
TJ Rainey – Lead Guitar/Vocals (Nashville Studio Musician)
Born and raised in Paris, Tenn., T.J. moved to Florida in 1995. T.J provides masterful guitar work and strong vocals. Occasionally you may find him on drums and other instruments. In Nasheville, T.J. has performed session work at Emerald Studios and performed at Tooties, The Wagon Wheel, Wild Horse Saloon, and Legends. T.J.’s high energy stage presence, precise guitar playing, witty humor makes for an exciting time with Nevaeh Peek!
Mike Rea – Keyboards/Guitar/Vocals (Nashville Studio Engineer/Studio Musician)
Mike Rea plays multiple instruments and turned professional at age 13. At college in Nashville he made the decision to step up his career in music by studying engineering, producing, and mastering with Capitol, Columbia and Atlantic Records. His career as an engineer, soundman, and musician led him to tour and work with headliners such as Sly and the Family Stone. His love of music has never ceased. His ambitions and goals remain the same, “give everything you are on the stage and take nothing away as you leave it.”
Mike Calabrese – Bass Guitar
Mike started his pro career in an R&B group, “Filet Of Soul.” They recorded two singles and were given the opportunity to open for Sly and the Family Stone a few times. Mike moved to the Miami area in the mid-70’s and played in funky disco bands. Later he moved to West Central Florida to record and play in several Southern Rock and Country bands such as Southern Comfort, Southern Branded, The Country Gentlemen, and others.
Kip Thompson – Percussion
Kip was raised in Tampa and started playing drums (from a dare) at age 13. Within the year he started playing in various local Tampa bands who introduced him to the Tampa bar circuit. Kip played in clubs until 1982 when he started playing in Christian Hair Metal bands where he toured the Midwest and northeast playing college and high school venues. Kip is the newest addition to Nevaeh Peek.
I started out my career nearly 20 years ago working with and writing for predominantly country bands. Needless to say, it was not only a pleasure to review a country band once again…but even more of a pleasure to review a GOOD country band once again. However, as their official bio states, the band does not limit themselves to just country music. Though predominantly country, the band also plays some amazing blues, not to mention some harder classic rock as well. Their performance at The Luxury Box this past Friday was a good example of their diversity.
The fan appreciation party on Friday not only featured Jennifer Lee and Nevaeh Peek performing that night, but also featured a trivia game hosted by Sheree Englehardt, North Tampa Rep for WhereWillWeGoTonight.com & Band Manager of Jennifer Lee and Nevaeh Peek. The trivia game consisted of several personal questions about the individual band members for their fans to answer. Fans who got the answers correct received free band merchandise as prizes.
Unfortunately for Jennifer Lee and Nevaeh Peek, like most every band that has played at The Luxury Box since they first introduced live music to their venue, the attendance was lower then expected. However, the low attendance is more likely due to the venue being relatively new then it is due to the band. The Luxury Box is a nice venue with great potential, but just needs to promote harder in order to get the word out about their venue and the bands who perform there.
However, despite the lower then expected attendance on Friday night, the band put on a great performance. The St. Petersburg Live Music Bar Scene Column looks forward to hearing this band again in the real near future!
If you missed Jennifer Lee and Nevaeh Peek performing at The Luxury Box this past Friday, you can catch them this weekend. Jennifer Lee and Nevaeh Peek will be performing tonight at Cowboy’s Steakhouse in Plant City, and then again tomorrow at San Ann Liquors in Dade City.
