As the latest installment in the Harry Potter movie franchise closes in on its second billion, fans worldwide are gearing up for yet another Potter related event. Instead of a movie, Potter lovers worldwide will be glued to their computer screens for the next week in the hopes of getting early access to Rowling’s new website Pottermore. The catch, those interested must find “the magical quill” which will test even Hermione’s knowledge of the wizarding world.
“7 books, 7 days, 7 chances” is what the quest for the magical quill is being dubbed. The Pottermore website underwent a change late Saturday night broadcasting the challenge, and information behind it. The story behind the magical writing instrument, according to the website is, “The Magical Quill detects the birth of magical children and writes their name down in a large book. Every year, Professor McGonagall checks the book and sends owls to the children who are turning eleven, to inform them that they have a place at Hogwarts.”
In order to find the location of the quill, a clue will be posted on the website which will signify where the it is located. Those who figure out where the location is must then put the answer behind Pottermore‘s web address in the address bar, and will then be taken there. Upon arrival, those that find the quill will then have the opportunity to officially register and gain immediate access to Pottermore. There is a drawback, however. There are not enough spots for everyone to register early, even if one does find the quill. There are a specific number of registration spots given per day for those that find the quill. Once those are taken, they are gone and those that did not receive a spot must try again the next day.
If you should not be one of the lucky few to find the quill in time, do not fret. Rowling has stated on the website that once the magical quill time has passed, those who did not locate it will be able to give their registration information, but will have to wait till October to access the website. Hence, individuals worldwide will be lacking in sleep the next few days, however, most that are currently waiting and will wait in the next week say it is a worthwhile effort.
Even though all the Harry Potter books are written, and the movies are now complete, there is no denying that those that grew up with “The boy who lived” are not letting him go yet. According to them, a world without Harry Potter would be a dull one, and it seems that Rowling has found an outlet for the magic to continue. The information that will be shared by her she has deemed appropriate for them to know, and she will be solely in charge of the postings on the website. Though far from the excitement that comes with a new Harry Potter book, Pottermore has already proven ithat Potter fans will follow Rowling and her magical world wherever she goes, therefore, it is bound to be an interesting journey.
