Isaiah Laurencin, a 16-year-old Miramar High School senior who collapsed on Tuesday during conditioning drills for his school football team, died Wednesday morning. Laurencin underwent an autopsy, but the Broward County Medical Examiner explained that the results would not be available for 90-120 days.
A vigil was held for Laurencin on Friday night with approximately 350 people in attendence, according to the Sun Sentinel. Teammates, friends and family all paid tribute to Isaiah Laurencin in different ways.
Laurencin’s football teammates recited a group prayer and then signed a banner that was given to his family. Laurencin’s father sang a rap song, his grandmother spoke beautiful words about her grandson and Laurencin will be memorialized on August 6th by his church, Cornerstone Christian Center Church in Hollywood.
Candles were lit and a moment of silence was observed at the vigil, according to the Sun Sentinel.
