We all enjoy a great cocktail or a good bottle of wine while on a date. Having a glass of wine typically breaks the ice. For some this loosens us up, drops barriers. Once warmed up, the giggles start, flirtation becomes easier; we began to get more comfortable. Let’s face it wine with a meal is always nice. Conversing seems easier, suddenly you find yourself feeling like old friends; you talk about most anything, everything from work, children, where you spent vacations to things you do and do not like, even exes. As you get more friendly, you start to touch hands, wink and maybe even blow kisses. Whatever your thing is, it could be cute. When the ice breaks, you are feeling super confident, the date is going great. The cocktails continue to flow, which could quickly lead to disaster. Alcohol is of course a mood-changing chemical, for some we get a little silly, for others; some could get out of control, some get nasty, some get naughty and some shut up tight as if he/she just stole something. Sharing a bottle or two is wonderful, consider this after you have moved passed the formalities and you are more familiar with each other. Once you have gotten to know your partner and things are moving forward. Getting a buzz is ok, once you two are dug in and you know each other’s drinking habits. When at home with your mate, if you decided to get drunk together, that is your choice, as you both have agreed or know one another well enough to do this. You can now do whatever you want together as a couple. Getting drunk on a date can say a lot about a person; this could also lead to things getting out of hand. If you like to drink, you do not need to make it known right away. It is ok to go home and open a bottle of chardonnay after your date. Once you have arrived at home; do call and thank your date for a great time. If you are a lightweight when it comes to spirits and you have gotten a little tipsy try not to get chatty, when intoxicated you could say the wrong things or become short for no reason. Alcohol can be a great icebreaker and can quickly become a deal breaker. If you feel you need to continue drinking, remember it is ok to get inebriated in the privacy of your own home. It is not attractive for your date to watch you stumble to the curb to hail a taxi, vomit on your shoes, curse people or do naughty things because you are beyond your limit. Your date can do without seeing all of your bad habits in one night. There is nothing worse than waking up and asking yourself what you did the night before with someone you have just met, if your date is in your bed than there is your answer, so drink responsibly.
