Insomniac Games have recently announced that the company has no plans to make anymore Resistance games after the third title hits shelves in September. This means that Sony will have to find another developer to handle the franchise. Do Baltimore gamers really want the main console entries of Resistance to be handled by a different developer?
Everything Resistance related is owned by Sony, and this means that the company can do whatever it wants with the franchise. The portable entries in the series are being handled by Sony’s first party studios. The only catch is that that both Resistance: Retribution and Resistance: Burning Skies take place before the start of Resistance 2. These games feature characters that were never in any of the console iterations. If Sony does decide to release Resistance 4 in the next generation, then there would be a huge weight put on the new developer’s shoulders. The titles developed by Insomniac Games have always been of high quality. If a new developer were to screw up in Resistance 4, then the reputation of Insomniac Games will be tarnished.
Insomniac Games always works on multiple titles at one time. In this generation, Insomniac Games has worked on both the Resistance franchise and Ratchet and Clank franchise simultaneously. The company also has a brand new franchise that it has been working on called Overstrike. Insomniac Games must know how to get things done if the company can manage three games at once. One would wonder why the company would hand over a successful franchise to another developer. Insomniac Games has enough man power to make Resistance 4 and other games at the same time, so why does the company want to give the franchise up completely? It is understandable if the developer wants to work on other projects for awhile, but why not come back to Resistance after some of the new titles are released on the market. A Resistance game does not have to be released every two to three years. Resistance 4 could come out in the year 2017. This would mean that it will have been six years since people last saw a console entry win the franchise.
Insomniac Games is a great developer. The company always makes games that are actually worth the full price of admission. The company’s games are also fun from start to finish. It would be a travesty for Baltimore gamers if Insomniac Games gave up the Resistance Franchise for good.
