If you have a home TV cable connection with an HBO subscription, an Internet connection, and preferably a WiFi connection, you can stream available HBO movies, series, TV shows, sports shows, etc., for free, directly to your iPad for viewing.
Just so you know, it seems as if stronger WiFi AND iPad service provider connections (ATT or Verizon) produce better streaming, which means fewer interruptions as you are watching.
Both apps – HBO and HBO GO – get mixed reviews – some love it, some hate it.
My iPad connection wasn’t that strong, my WiFI connection was great, but I still had to put up with interruptions, and rebooting.
This, for me, was OK, since I am now able to watch what I want, when I want, despite the fact that the kids usually have control of the TV. I do have to say that sitting back in my recliner, propping up my iPad with ear buds, and watching a show was great! With all the features iPad 1 and 2 have, I have never had the opportunity to sit down and use this option.
If you are interested in watching the available shows on HBO via your iPad, log into Apple’s App store, type HBO into the search bar in the upper right corner, and first download the free HBO app. Next, download the free HBO GO app.
HBO GO requires setting up a free account, which is connected to your home TV cable connection. Follow the on-screen prompts and directions. (Again, you must have HBO in your cable TV package in order to use this option.)
Note: You are also able to set parental controls so that younger family members can only view age appropriate material.
At this time, HBO supports the following TV cable providers: AT&T U-verse, Charter, Cox (Beta), DIRECTV, dish, RCN* (beta) suddenlink, verizon, and xfinity.
Once the apps are downloaded, and you’ve set up your account, tap the HBO GO icon on your iPad desktop. Tap the “Sign In” box in the upper left corner, and log into your HBO GO account.
If you get a message stating that you need an Internet connection, keep trying– the signal for some providers seems to come and go.
There are a lot of features and a lot of viewing choices, so take the time to explore your options, and enjoy the show!
