The grief continues for the Oklahoma National Guard as the death of 1st Lt. Damon T. Leehan, 30, of Edmond, Oklahoma, was released by the Department of Defense this afternoon.
1st Lt. Leehan died Aug. 14, 2011, in Laghman province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
There was no information available regarding injuries sustained by other Soldiers in the attack.
1st Lt. Leehan was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Oklahoma National Guard, Stillwater, Oklahoma. His unit is supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.
The Oklahoma National Guard has taken heavy losses on this deployment.
