As Hurricane Irene tracks up the East Coast on Saturday, August 27, air travel is disrupted for thousands of people.
United, Continental, American, Delta, US Air, Jet Blue, AirTran and Southwest have all canceled a massive amount of flights, stranding travelers and causing a bit of mayhem at airports up and down the coast. Most airlines are offering passengers the ability to reschedule flights without fees.
NY Airports Closing: As of noon on Saturday John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia, Newark Liberty, Teterboro and Stewart airports will be closed to all arriving flights — both international and domestic.
United and Continental announced that they will stop service on Saturday at Newark Liberty, Kennedy and LaGuardia airports. At least 2,300 flights have already been canceled for both Saturday and Sunday.
AirTran states that passengers who are traveling from these cities between August 27 – August 29 can make travel changes within 7 days from the original scheduled departure date without change fees. Passengers are advised to make changes to their travel online. Check flight status online here
American Airlines states that passengers may change flights to/from most East Coast cities listed here if they are booked to travel between August 25 and 30, 2011 and the ticket was issued before August 25.
Continental Airlines states that travel to/from certain US cities may be rescheduled if travel was to take place between August 26-30. Reschedule without fees or fare differences if travel starts by September 6. Make travel changes online at Continental.com. **Note: Continental announced that they will stop service on Saturday at Newark Liberty, Kennedy and LaGuardia airports.
Delta Airlines is allowing passengers to make a one-time change to their tickets with no associated fee if they are traveling into selected cities listed here between August 26-29, 2011. Check flight status frequently for up-to-the-minute info about your flight plans, or get updates sent directly to your wireless device or email with Delta Messenger.
JetBlue will waive change fees and fare differences for customers traveling to/from certain cities. Travelers may rebook for new flights that depart through Saturday, Sept 3, 2011. Find the list of eligible cities here. Customers can check the status of their flight at mobile.jetblue.com or by calling 1-800-JETBLUE.
Southwest Airlines states that customers holding reservations for travel to/from the cities listed below starting Saturday, August 27 thru Monday, August 29 are eligible to reschedule their flight in accordance with our accommodation procedures. See the list of cities here. Visit the Travel Center to checkin, change, or cancel their current flight reservations.
United Airlines is allowing travelers to reschedule flight booked for from August 26 through the 30 from these cities as long as travel is completed within 7 days of the original travel date. Most fees are waived.
US Airways is waiving change fees with certain restriction for flights from these cities that were booked for travel between August 28 or Aug 29, 2011. Change your trip online at usairways.com/manageyourtrip or call 800-428-4322.
