Flat Rock @ Grosse Ile Thursday 7:00 pm: Last season the Red Devils beat the Rams 49-34 in week 7. Grosse Ile is coming off of a 33-0 thrashing of Onsted. Flat Rock is still hurting from a penalty filled 36-14 loss at Ida.
Flat Rock moved the ball on offense last week but kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties. Mike Blosser was effective carrying the ball while Ken Kamin provided some outside speed. Look for the Rams to pass a little more than usual to keep Grosse Ile off balance.
Defensively the Rams need to get better up front. Flat Rock will have to find a way to slow down the Red Devil rushing attack then hope that the passing game doesn’t hurt them.
Grosse Ile surprised everyone last week by passing the ball only 4 times against Onsted. Look for more of the same from coach Bodner as the Red Devils will look to exploit the small Flat Rock line with Rob White and Alex Kish.
Defensively Grosse Ile couldn’t have played any better than last week. Flat Rock will look to run the ball early to find out if the GI defense is for real.
A week ago I might have called this game a toss up. GI rolled a solid LCAA team while FR lost to one of the lower echelon LCAA teams. Look for the Rams to score on the Islanders but not be able to slow their offense down. Pick: Grosse Ile 40 Flat Rock 21
SMCC @ Huron Thursday 7:00 pm: The Falcons hammered the Chiefs at Navarre Field last season 47-3. Huron is coming off of a 28-8 win over an improved Erie Mason team while SMCC was beaten soundly by Plymouth at The Big Prep Showdown 47-13.
SMCC had little success on the ground last week when it mattered but the Falcons won’t change a thing. They will look to run right at Huron while using their special teams to gain field position.
Defensively, the Falcons are inexperienced and will be looking to stop Huron’s option attack led by Zack Crespi.
Huron will look to run the ball most of the night while throwing to the tight ends as much as possible. If Zach Gill and Jordan Frayer get involved in the passing game Huron could be in good shape.
Huron is improved on defense this year and must avoid giving the Falcons big plays for touchdowns. The Chiefs must make SMCC drive the ball down the field to have success.
This game is tough to call. SMCC may come into this game ticked off after last week however Huron plays well at home especially in front of big crowds. This will be a close one. Pick: SMCC 21 Huron 17
