The peplum style is most notably recognizable from the 80s and 40s. The wrap-around ruffle-like accent on dresses and jackets has had its day in the spotlight but is returning to fashion yet again in fall 2011. You probably remember the silhouettes of the 40s and the emphasis on tiny waists, well, the peplum style was popular for making the waist appear smaller thus giving the illusion of the ultimate hour glass shape.
In San Diego, you can find a plethora of boutiques who carry fashion forward options which are bound to include peplum style dresses and more.
Not only is this classic style showing up in sweaters and dresses, they are appearing in a huge fashion trend of the past couple of years, the blazer. Slightly flared at the waist, the peplum blazer puts emphasis in all the right places, accentuating the feminine shape and diminishing the sometimes boxy shape.
This style is versatile and works well for both work and casual attire. Knee length dresses with a peplum accent, again very reminiscent of the 40s, is a great transitioning look from work-day to evening outings.
