The Post 9/11 GI bill will pay you based on the zip code of the school you are attending. You will receive money equivalent to E-5 BAH with dependants in the zip code of your school. Your school will receive tuition equal to that of the highest in-state tuition of any public school. Students that go to a foreign or private school will be capped at $17,500 per year. The Fresno housing allowance rate is $1200 per month.
Your payment of BAH is prorated based on the number of units you are taking. If you are a full-time student (12 units during fall and spring semesters at FCC) you will get full entitlement. If you take 9 units, you will get 75% of your allotted BAH per month ($900). You may get paid less, but your entitlement will last longer. This is because your length of entitlement is based on spending 36 months as a full time student.
There is also a book stipend, paid annually, of up to $1,000. This is to reimburse you for the cost of books and supplies. It is paid proportionally to enrollment. Essentially, it is prorated based on your enrollment.
An important thing to remember when planning you education, is that you will not receive any portion of your entitlement during breaks from school (such as spring break), unless the break is due to a natural disaster, etc. This means that you will almost definitely have to find a job while going to school.
