Sad to say, Labor Day weekend is just about here. Labor Day is the unofficial end of Summer and your last sun-filled three day weekend. Since it is the last extended weekend of the season you need to make it count, how about a little adventure? Have you been on a zip line recently? Whether you are in the mood for a day trip out of San Francisco or a weekend getaway, there are a number of zip line options.
If you are looking for a total escape, head to Las Vegas for the extended weekend and take a ride on the Fremont Street Flightlinez zip line. For a Vegas attraction it is a reasonable price, take a ride before 6p for $15 and after 6p for $20. The 800 foot zipline takes you under the canopy and through the heart of the Fremont Street Experience. I had an opportunity to ride the Fremont Street Flightlinez zip line last weekend and it gives you the feeling of being outside, the wind blowing through your hair, with the protection of being inside (I’m a pasty redhead so direct sunlight is something I avoid) since you fly under the Viva Vision light show. This is a fabulous ride because no matter what direction you look there is something to see; The people below, the VivaVision light show above you, and the casino signs are all around you. Added bonus, the guys that catch you at the end are totally hot. There is nothing better than whizzing through the air only to be brought back to Earth by a good looking man!
For a return to nature head to the Moaning Caverns twin zip lines. The ride to Moaning Caverns is close to three hours, so you can opt for a day trip or make a weekend of it. The twin zip line is 1500 feet of adrenaline as you rush through the trees at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. One ride will cost you $39, a second go will lower the price to $24. Check out a few videos of the ride to get you revved up!
Redwood Zip line Canopy Tours is, by far, the most expensive zip line ride in the area but you get a little more zoom for your buck. Redwood Zip line Canopy Tours offers more than just a one time thrill ride, it is a two hour tour of the redwood forest. The tour includes 6 zip line rides and two walks along a sky bridge. Tours are limited to eight people and two tour guides guide the way. Tours run Tuesday to Sunday and are $80.
Don’t feel like leaving San Francisco? There is an urban zip line for you! For the second year in a row Ziptek has set up an urban zip in Justin Herman Plaza at the Embarcadero Center. Last year Ziptek only set up shop for 10 days, this year the line will be up until October. One ride will set you back $29.
