Horse lovers can see professional horse trainers in action at the Horse Days festival at the Boone County Fairgrounds on August 19-21. Local trainers representing various disciplines will conduct clinics on horse handling/training and invite horse owners to bring their horses for training. Here’s an overview.
Indy O’Conner from Rockford, IL is offering Problems Solving clinics. He focuses on establishing herd boss position, developing timing, balance and feel.
Juli Realy of Golden Gait Stable in Marengo, IL will present Gaited Horse Equitation helping riders of all gaited breeds polish their skills and enhance their horse’s gait.
TJ Clibborn and Tracy Porter from Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin will present Trailer Loading, and Obstacle Trail work helping rider and horse develop a true partnerships.
Jamie Price, Eventing trainer from Tamara Lynn Stables in Richmond IL will present Riding Position with Dressage Emphasis, Improving Horse Jumping Knowledge, and Riding Jump Courses.
Donna Irwin of Galva, IL a pro barrel racer/instructor will present Barrel Racing Basics and Rating the Barrel.
Mel Haas of Northern Illinois Outlaws Mounted Shooters will be Introducing Mounted Shooting, a sport that combines speed riding and target shooting.
Dan Grunwald from Jefferson WI, an experienced show judge, offers “Through the Judges Eyes’ helping show competitors improve.
Dave Kluge of Beaver Dam WI, Natural Horsemanship clinician will present Teaching Your Horse Softness and Self-Carriage, Intro to Driving, and Roping.
Mary Vanderloop of Double Dutch Ranch in Malone WI will present Preparing for Parade, Trick Training, and Side Saddle Riding.
Harmony Horsemanship from Deerfield WI presents Equi-Soccer, and natural based Horsemanship and Rope-Hackamore Techniques.
Steve Lantvit from LaPorte, IN from “Sure in the Saddle” weekly TV show will present Trail Obstacles, Equitation Patterns to Improve Performance, Using the Chambon for Softness, Teach Your Horse Neck-Reining.
Rob Robinson from Indianapolis IN will present Halter & Showmanship Basics.
Chad Kellyfrom Monett MO works with the Mustang Heritage Foundation to train and promote mustang adoptions. He will share his training expertise gained from handling wild horses.
Mike Branch from Blain TN will present Round Penning and Longing Horses.

In addition to horse training clinics, there will be educational equine workshops and seminars, as well as horse shows, demonstrations, rodeo, dog activities, live bands, shopping/food vendors, a petting zoo and a children’s rodeo cowboy challenge (but not riding broncs!)
