The cast for the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars” was unveiled Monday night during an episode of “Bachelor Pad”. Some of the celebs stepping out onto the ballroom floor came as a surprise, ranging from film stars, an NBA player, an Iraqi war veteran and soap star and a TV legal eagle. HLN host Nancy Grace will be learning a few dance routines in the coming weeks. Grace is among the 12 celebs competing this season on “DWTS” on ABC. The former Atlanta prosecutor is known for being a vocal victim’s advocate on her cable talk/debate show “Nancy Grace” on HLN. A fierce opponent in the courtroom and in a TV debate, will she just as formidable on the dance floor? She’ll compete for the title of “DWTS” Champion against 2010 NBA champion Ron Artest, singer and actress Chynna Phillips of the group Wilson Phillips, fashion guru Carson Kressley, Army veteran and star of ABC’s “All My Children” J R Martinez, reality star Kristin Cavallari of “The Hills”, Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis, reality star and model Rob Kardashian, women’s soccer player and Olympic Gold medalist Hope Solo, actor David Arquette, actress and former talk show host Ricki Lake and last but certainly not least, Cher and Sonny Bono’s son, Chaz Bono.
With such an interesting and diverse group of celebs, there’s no telling who America will rally behind when the dancing competition premieres with a two-night event starting September 19 at 8 P.M. on ABC. Atlanta has been well represented in reality competitions lately. Will Nancy Grace make us proud? “DWTS” is one of the few reality competitions where viewer participation affects the outcome of the results. Last season Atlanta resident and two time Super Bowl Champion Hines Ward won the mirror ball trophy. Another Atlantan, ESPN anchor/reporter Erin Andrews placed third on season 11 of the show.
The legal expert and mother of twins talked to her HLN colleague AJ Hammer about her new dancing gig. Grace said,
I know I’m not the youngest, the thinnest, the prettiest or the best dancer, but I’ve got a lot of heart.
