It is a hope of every ill person to find out healing for his or her complaint, some people believe that medical treatment is the only way of healing, but many Muslims believe that healing is from God (Allah) first, then through other ways of healing like medical procedures and medications. This means that Allah is the Higher Power who controls everything in the world. It is clear in the Quran that Allah is the one who cures people in chapter 26, verse 80“And when I am ill, it He Who cures me.” (Ali 2007)
In Islam, Allah gave Jesus (the messenger of Christianity) the miracles and permission of healing in the Quran chapter 3, verse 49 “And (appoint him) a messenger to the children of Israel, (with this message): I have come to you, with a sign from your Lord, in that I make for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, and breath into it, and it becomes a bird by Allah’s leave: And I heal those born blind, and the lepers, and I quicken the dead, by Allah’s leave; and I declare to you what you eat, and what you store in your houses. Surely there in is a sign for you if you did believe.” (Ali 2007)
Pharmacognosy is the science which studies drugs from natural sources such as plants. Allah created plants to help in cure people and ordered the bee to eat it and provide people with its honey. It was inspired in the Quran chapter 16, verse 68 “ And your Lord taught the Bee to build its cells in hills, on trees, and in (men’s) habitations” Verse 69 “ Then to eat of all the produce (of the earth), and find with skill the spacious paths of its Lord: there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colors, where in is healing for men: verily in this is a sign for those who give thought.” (Ali 2007)
Healing of the soul needs more than medicine. It needs pure faith in God, trust in his power that reading of the Quran helps people to overcome their suffering and sorrow. In the Quran chapter 17, verse 82 “We send down (stage by stage) in the Quran that which that is a healing and a mercy to those who believe: to unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss.” (Ali 2007)
In summary, healing in Islam is through God (Allah) first, and Muslims can take ways like medical treatments, which are permitted in Islam, because this can be the reason that God (Allah) has created for healing.
