San Antonio’s “comfort food” restaurants can match any traditional nostalgic or sentimentally appealing cafes anywhere.
Whether eaten to relieve negative feelings, or evoke positive emotions, comfort food can mean different things to whoever is asked.
“Meat loaf, mash potatoes, green beans, and cornbread like my grandmother cooked is my definition of good comfort food,” said Roberta Cooke, when asked as she was coming out of Tucker’s Kozy Korner at 1338 East Houston, Wednesday evening.
“If it’s winter, give me some homemade stew with carrots and potatoes,” Barbara Tesoro added. “In the summer, some fried chicken, biscuits, and bake beans.”
John Parham, who was grabbing a toothpick from his shirt pocket leaving dinner from Good Time Charlies at 2922 Broadway, laughed and answered, “I like hot dogs and chili, banana pudding, corn on the cob, ice cream and macaroni and cheese.”
