“Hawaii Five-0” has been able to secure quite a few noteworthy guest stars for this upcoming season (from Tom Sizemore to former “Lost” actor Terry O’Quinn), but they may have just secured their greatest coup of all. According to Entertainment Weekly, Academy Award-winning actress Patty Duke (“The Miracle Worker”) has been cast for a one-episode guest spot this coming season.
Based on some early descriptions of this character, it may very well be one of the most heartbreaking episodes of the show to date. Duke is set to play a woman suffering from Alzheimer’s, and when the police try to inform her that her son has been murdered, she holds strong to the belief that he is actually a child. (Eventually, she will have to figure it out over the course of the episode.)
This episode is likely going to be so effective for two principal reasons — not only will it raise awareness for people suffering from this disease, but it could very well bring Duke some additional awards recognition.
