The trailer for the Sarah Palin “documentary” Undefeated has found its way online, but we’re convinced– after watching and laughing uproariously at the trailer below many, many times– that this is all an elaborate practical joke being played upon Tea Party supporters by a rogue documentarian. Is it? Or did someone really make this movie with a straight face? See what you think below, my gentle Examiner readers…
Sarah Palin is one of our all-time favorite topics here at Comedy Examiner HQ. She’s not a comedienne, she’s not an entertainer (by any official definition of the term, anyway), and her work as the former Governor of Alaska is probably the furtherst thing from “funny” that anyone in that state could imagine…and yet, again and again we find reasons to return to the Palin-well. Sometimes it’s because she’s said something incredibly, hilariously stupid in an interview (that whole “blood libel” thing), sometimes it’s because she’s embarrassed herself magnificently on the campaign trail (nearly constantly), and sometimes it’s…well, virtually anything else. Sarah Palin is– irregardless of her politics– a walking, talking punchline.
Today’s entry in our long-running (and, in all likelihood, neverending) series of updates on Sarah Palin concerns the release of the trailer for Undefeated, a mockumentary someone decided to make about the Governor. My notes tell me that Undefeated is supposedly a straight-faced “documentary” about Palin’s life and times as the Governor of Alaska (and the would-be Vice President of the United States), but after watching the trailer we’re convinced that this must be a put-on. Surely no one’s releasing a film this self-congratulatory and ill-advised with a straight face, right?
You can see the trailer for yourselves over there on the left (you’ll have to hit the “Video” box to see it; no embeds for you, good sir or ma’am). Check it out and see what you think. We’re convinced that this is an elaborate joke (one wonders if Palin’s not in on it; sooner or later, she’s going to want to get in on all the fun the rest of us have been having lately), but then again, we’ve been wrong before: for the first year or so that Palin was in the public eye, we were convinced that “Sarah Palin” was actually an elaborate practical joke being played on America by Tina Fey, a theory that was only confused by Fey’s frequent appearances as “Sarah Palin” on Saturday Night Live.
As per usual, you can sound off in the comments section if you’ve got any of your own theories to share. Do you think– as we do– that this is all just a prank being played by some witty documentarian? Or do you think that this one’s for real? And will you be seeing Undefeated when it opens later this year, or do you think that the film will bomb (kinda like how Atlas Shrugged horrifically bombed earlier this year despite the “universal acclaim” the film received amongst Tea Party members)? Sound off below: we’re sure you’ll have a well-reasoned, thoughtful, and in-no-way emotional response to all this.
