All mankind is spiritually dead until they have been born a new by the power of the Holy Spirit. For this reason many Christians profess that they have been born again simply because they believe and confess Yeshua is Lord and Savior. But is that really all that is required to be born again? Yeshua taught that it was not enough to believe, for even the demons believe:
“Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” – James 2:19 (KJV)
“And, behold, they (demonic spirits) cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?” – Matthew 8:29 (KJV)
You must be born again
The Messiah made it clear that you must be born again in order to enter the Kingdom of God (John 3:1-7). His emphasis of the critical need for this experience should secure a desire in the hearts of all mankind to understand this phenomenon. Unfortunately, different denominations promote conflicting doctrines on how one may receive this new birth, such as:
- You must have hands laid on you by someone with authority to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:19-24.
- All you have to do is ask for the gift of the Holy Spirit and trust that the Creator, as the supreme loving Father, will give you the good gift you have asked for (Matthew 7:11).
Know the Truth
Every disciple would be blessed by following the example of the ancient saints from Berea:
“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” – Acts 17:11 (KJV)
These disciples trusted the Holy Spirit to teach them the truth (John 14:26). Although the Creator often speaks through anointed leaders, it is the responsibility of every disciple to prove that what they are being taught is true. The Creator wants His children to be wise.
