According to fan site, Mugglenet.com, the latest ‘Harry Potter’ movie is set to pass the $1 billion mark by the end of today. It will join ‘Avatar’, ‘Titanic’, ‘Toy Story 3’, and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ as movies that have passed $1 billion.
Mugglenet credit’s the high sales to the price of 3D tickets, fans going to see the movie multiple times, and the fact that it’s the last movie of the series.
Only being in the theaters for 15 days, it will be the fastest movie to reach the $1 billion mark, beating out ‘Avatar’ at 18 days. With a premiere in China on August 4 coming up, it’s a strong possibility that this could become the highest grossing film of all time.
After today, ‘Deathly Hallows Part 2’ will also become the highest grossing film in the franchise. Warner Brothers is hoping that the movie ticket sales will help them when it comes to promoting for the Oscars.
