H.B. 56, one of the toughest immigration laws in the nation was passed and signed into law by Alabama Governor Robert Bentley. It was desired by the majority of Alabama citizens and duly enacted via the legitimate democratic process. The federal government failed miserably in it’s responsability to the American people. Alabama’s H.B. 56 was enacted from the will of the people by the leaders of this great state to address this willful failure.
Thankfully our leaders are standing fast against this frivolous lawsuit filed by those who aid and abet this criminal element allowed to run rampant in our society. The suit was filed by leftist groups like the ACLU, the Southern Poverty Law Center, Alabama’s religous left, pro-criminal alien advocates, etc…; who claim it’s the federal governments duty to enforce immigration laws. The Fed has, however, blatantly refused to put U.S. citizens before criminal alien invaders.
Alabama Senate President pro tem Senator Del Marsh (R-Anniston) replied that Alabama officials are tired of waiting for the federal government to act. He stated; “While the federal government has looked the other way on this issue, Alabama’s illegal immigration population has exploded nearly 400% over the last decade.” With a state unemployment rate of over 9% and rising; Sen. Marsh rightly believes it is important to ensure Alabama residents aren’t being passed over for jobs by those here illegally.
Alabama State Senator Gerald Dial says; ” I think the suit is worthless, we need to make a few tweaks, but not change the basic law; illegal is just plain wrong.” I couldn’t agree more. Alabama is lucky to have leadership like this.
Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange filed a motion claiming the suit is too vague, hazy, and gives no legal reason the law is invalid. AG Strange is rightly upset that the opponents of H.B. 56 compare it to Alabama’s segregationist past. He called this “impertinent and scandalous” to correlate the treatment of black citizens to a law aimed at foreign nationals in this country illegally.
Republican House Speaker Mike Hubbard says the suit will not undo the law and that Alabama will not become a sanctuary state for illegals. He declared; “Alabama will have a strict immigration law and we will enforce it.” He deserves our thanks and full support.
One of the main reasons illegal alien advocates are so bent out of shape over H.B. 56 and laws like those in Arizona, Georgia, etc… is they are working. Illegals are self deporting. Proof positive that attrition through the enforcement of the law is effective. State Representative Micky Hammon (R- Decatur), a sponsor of the bill, said it’s having the effect supporters hoped by forcing illegal aliens to leave the state. Todd Stacy, a spokesman for Rep. Mike Hubbard stated; “For illegal immigrants to now be leaving the state shows they know Alabama is serious about enforcing it’s laws.”
Documented legal residents have nothing to fear from H.B. 56. It is and always has been illegal to hire criminal aliens regardless of whether it’s picking peaches, cooking in a restaurant, roofing a house, paving a driveway, etc…. No business owner shouold be allowed to violate state and federal laws in order to make a living. The lie that illegals do work American’s refuse to do doesn’t hold water.
Employers who blatantly violate our law should be held accountable. H.B. 56 accomplishes this beautifully. A society that allows for the selective enforcement of the law soon falls into anarchy and disorder. Stand up for H.B.56 and our noble leaders supporting it. By doing so you are standing up for Alabama and the nation.
