A FACEBOOK group was launched Saturday against honor killings and forced marriages in North America.
The group called “Justice 4 Shaher Bano Shahdady” has been named after the 21-year-old Baloch woman with the same name who was brutally murdered by her conservative husband at her 3131 Eglington Avenue East apartment in Scarborough, Canada.
The four agenda items of the group, launched by the pro-independence American Friends of Balochistan include:
“ALL HUMANS ARE BORN EQUAL;THERE SHOULD BE NO HONOR KILLING; THERE SHOULD BE NO FORCED MARRIAGE; and WOMEN MUST HAVE RIGHT TO JOIN FACEBOOK.”
The adminstrators of the group, among others, include world-famed human rights actvist Peter Tatchell; American Friends of Balochistan leaders Laurie Deamer and Jane Weisner; and famed anti-mining activist Sakura Saunders.
Shahdady was the adminstrator of a FACEBOOK entertainment group with more than 6,000 members. Her involvement with FACEBOOK was a bone of contention with her estranged husband, Abdul Malik Rustam.
Rustam, who arrived in Canada in May, was staying with Shahdady’s father Mullah Abdul Ghafoor on the day of the slaying. The victim herself had moved out of the house on July 1, 2011 and was planning to divorce Rustam.
Ghafoor had forcibly married Shahdady to Rustam during a visit to Karachi, Pakistan.
Both Rustam and Ghafoor are conservative Muslim missionaries.
